Contentious Charlie

Before we could deal with contention, we needed to understand where it came from. Arguments rarely happened without a cause, and often the problem ran deeper than the disagreement itself. Pride, selfishness, jealousy, and an unwillingness to admit when we were wrong could all contribute to a contentious spirit. We were often quick to point out what someone else had done wrong while overlooking the attitudes within our own hearts. If we wanted to overcome contention, we first had to be willing to examine its source. The key to dealing with contention was learning to recognize what caused it in the first place.
