Duties Towards a Dying World

Jesus never intended for His followers to isolate themselves from the world around them. Instead, He called them to influence it. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus used two powerful illustrations to describe the believer's role in society: salt and light. Salt preserves and adds flavor, while light exposes darkness and provides direction. Both are most effective when they come into contact with their surroundings. As Christians, we have a responsibility to impact a world that is spiritually lost and desperately in need of the Gospel. Rather than retreating from the culture, believers are called to faithfully represent Christ within it.
