The Command To Disciple

Before ascending to heaven, Jesus gave His followers a mission that would define the church until His return. The Great Commission was not merely a suggestion or a challenge for a select few—it was a command for every believer. Jesus called His disciples to go, make disciples, baptize them, and teach them to follow all that He had commanded. The church's mission is not simply to gather people, but to develop followers of Christ who will in turn make more disciples. Every believer has been entrusted with the responsibility of participating in God's plan to reach the world with the Gospel.

This passage reminds us that discipleship is not an optional ministry of the church—it is the mission of the church.
