This I Recall: Lessons From Lamentations

The book of Lamentations is one of the most sorrowful books in Scripture. Jeremiah watched Jerusalem fall, witnessed suffering on every side, and experienced deep personal grief. The opening verses of chapter three describe darkness, affliction, discouragement, and despair. Yet in the middle of his sorrow, Jeremiah makes a deliberate decision: "This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope." His circumstances had not changed, but his focus had. Instead of dwelling solely on his pain, he chose to remember the faithfulness, mercy, and goodness of God.

This passage teaches a powerful truth: hope is often found not in changing our circumstances, but in remembering God's character.
